Delete your Tab account and data
This page explains how to delete your Tab account and the data associated with it. Tab is operated by the Tab team.
Option 1 - delete in the app (fastest)
- Open Tab and sign in.
- Tap the Account icon.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm on the "Delete your account?" prompt.
Your personal data is deleted immediately. This cannot be undone.
Option 2 - request deletion by email
If you can't access the app, email hello@tabup.app from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We will verify ownership and delete your account and data within 30 days (typically much sooner).
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Your profile - email address, password, display name, and Telegram username/link.
- Your friends list - every contact connection you made or received.
- Your device push token - notifications stop immediately.
- Your group memberships - you're removed from every group you were in.
What is kept, and why
Tab is a shared ledger - other people's balances depend on the same expense records you're part of. So unlike your personal data above, we don't delete:
- Expenses, settlements, and trip passes you were involved in. These stay in the groups you were part of, exactly as before, so the other members' balances remain accurate - but they're re-attributed to "Deleted user" instead of your name. This mirrors how it already works if you'd simply left the group without deleting your account: your name, not your presence in past shared expenses, is what's removed.
- Backups - data is removed from our active systems immediately; any residual copies in routine backups are overwritten within 30 days.
Purchases
Deleting your account doesn't refund or reverse a trip pass you already bought - it's a one-time unlock for that trip, not a subscription, so there's nothing ongoing to cancel.
Linked Telegram
If you signed in with Telegram or linked a Telegram account, deleting your Tab account unlinks it. Your Telegram account itself isn't affected - the Tab bot simply stops recognizing it as connected to a Tab account.
